Oktoberfest Riflemen’s Parade 2024
The Oktoberfest Riflemen’s Parade (Schützen- und Trachtenzug) is one of the most vibrant events at Oktoberfest, celebrating Bavarian culture, traditions, and history of all German.
In 1835 The Riflemen’s Parade was first held to celebrate the silver wedding anniversary of King Ludwig I and Queen Therese of Bavaria. It has since become a tradition, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Bavaria.The parade typically takes place on the first Sunday of Oktoberfest, starting at 10:00 AM.The parade begins at the Maximilianstraße, passes through the streets of Munich, and ends at the Theresienwiese, the Oktoberfest grounds.
Many riflemen’s clubs from all over Germany participate, dressed in traditional uniforms and carrying historical weapons. The Riflemen’s Parade starts the official opening of the Oktoberfest festivities, setting the tone for the celebration. It is a symbol of Bavarian tradition, highlighting the importance of cultural preservation and community spirit.
