The Winzerer Fähndl has been the Paulaner Brewery’s signature since 1895 when it upgraded from its status from a beer booth to big tent. Luckily, other breweries joined in, turning Oktoberfest into the huge celebration it is today. Paulaner beer has been served at Oktoberfest since 1818, so it’s no wonder the Paulaner Festzelt was the first to have its own beer pipeline, supplying all the taps in the tent from one central source. That’s German ingenuity for you!
Paulaner Festzelt is the only tent that can hold almost 11,000 people. It’s the biggest tent at Oktoberfest festival. gemütlichkeit is the game of Paulaner Festzelt, It means a cozy, comfortable, and pleasant atmosphere where people feel at ease and enjoy good times together. Let’s say you are at Oktoberfest and when you saw the massive tower with the spinning Paulaner maß on top, you have found this tent, also known as Winzerer Fähndl.
It’s the one tent where you can find the most cozy environment, a local radio station broadcasting from it, and the hottest FC Bayern athletes kickin’ it inside. (hope you Get it 😀)
Let me give you the best way to find Paulaner Festzelt, In almost every photo of Oktoberfest you’ll spot a giant maß high above the crowds, a 26-meter-tall tower. That’s the location of Paulaner Festzelt. It’s one of the most recognizable beer tents and it’s the Oktoberfest example of “Go Big or Go Home”.
The name Winzerer Fähndl comes from the name of a crossbowmen association who used to call the Paulaner Festzelt home .The guys with the guns eventually moved into the Armbrustschütenzelt but the name remained the same.
The Paulaner Festzelt offers Paulaner festbier, a hearty menu of traditional Bavarian dishes, and tons of gemütlichkeit (coziness and good vibes). Their live bands are a hit every year, and you can even catch a local radio station broadcasting from the tent. Just look for the giant spinning maß and you’ll know you’re among friends!
