You must be wondering what that sound really is?? It’s the signature Löwenbräu lion mascot sits 37 meters above the crowd in the Oktoberfest beer tents, drinking his beer and making some sort of sound afterwards. Like “Leewwwwvenbraaiiii” and it’s frightening if you’re up on the balcony right behind him.
The Löwenbräu Festzelt, which means “Lion’s Brew Festival Tent”—features lions all over the place and also on their Beer. This tent is a favorite of the local TSV 1860 München soccer team, both fans and players. The tent is one of the largest, seating nearly 9,000 people, and it’s also the brightest. The Löwenbräu Festzelt has over 16,000 lightbulbs, more than any other Oktoberfest beer tent. In 2016, they replaced the traditional bulbs with LEDs.
Inside, you’ll find easy-drinking Löwenbräu beer served alongside traditional Bavarian Foods like pork knuckle (schweinshaxe), bratwursts, duck, and even a surprisingly large menu of Italian dishes. Löwenbräu beer has been brewed for centuries, with its name dating back to the early 1500s when a brewer moved into 17 Löwengrube (“lion’s pit”). Today, we raise our mugs to a giant lion that chugs beer and talks.Sounds fun. ha!
