Augustine Beer: A Taste of Brewing Excellence
The Augustiner Brewery was founded in 1328, it’s the oldest brewery in Munich which is almost 700 years old. This Brewery was established in the Augustinian monastery and supplied beer to The Royal Family until Hofbräu was founded in 1589. Do the Bavarian royal drinkers know no loyalty???
Augustiner settled in Neuhauser Straße in 1817 after privatization. Augustiner Brewery is still located today Exactly where the Augustiner restaurant, is popular among locals and tourists. At the end of the 19th century, the headquarters and brewing operations were relocated to Landsberger Straße, where brewing is still going on to the present day. Augustiner Hell, revered for its distinctive half-liter bottle adorned with the iconic image of a stout monk, holds a revered status.
Augustiner is the only brewery in Munich still using wooden barrels to store beer. You will see this with your own Beer Goggles at Oktoberfest.

At Oktoberfest, you can get your hands on the 6.2% (2023) Augustiner Oktoberfest beer at the Augustiner Festzelt, Fischer Vroni, and Festzelt Tradition on the Oide Wiesn. And guess what? Augustine has some smaller tents too! There’s Ammer, where they grill up tasty chicken and duck, Wildstuben, and the Zur Bratwurst tent. What’s cool is that Augustiner is the only brewery still using those old-school 200-liter wooden barrels, called Hirschen, for storage. How neat is that?
